1. Gentle Cleansing

A lot of people see an organic shampoo made from natural ingredients and assume it’s not as effective at cleaning your scalp and hair.

But in actuality, that’s not the truth…just another misconception about natural products.

Safer shampoo products are made from natural ingredients like surfactants decyl glucoside(plant-derived surfactant), sodium cocoyl isethionate(derived from coconut oil), and tea tree oil which has a natural antimicrobial and antifungal agent.

Ingredients like these are so much gentler than sulfates that can irritate and even damage your hair and scalp.

But just because they’re gentler and better for sensitive scalps doesn’t make them tough on dirt and grime!

2. Promotes Healthy Hair Growth

Shampoo made from organic ingredients like rosemary oil, peppermint oil, biotin (vitamin b7), and castor oil support and promote hair growth.

These ingredients help nourish the scalp, strengthen hair follicles, and reduce issues like breakage and thinning.

I use shampoo with peppermint or rosemary oil and not only does it help support stronger hair but I really do love the smell.

3. Balances Scalp Oils

One thing I’ve learned over the years is just how important your scalp health is. You can’t have healthy hair if you neglect your scalp.

But luckily shampoos made from clean ingredients make it so easy to take care of your scalp and keep it in balance( yes… even through the driest winter and the most humid summer).

These types of shampoos use ingredients like organic argan oil, which is rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, and jojoba oil which helps moisturize your scalp, reducing dandruff, and promoting a healthy balance of oils without making your scalp feel greasy.

4. Reduces Dandruff

So like I said before, I used to struggle with dandruff. Not only was it super embarrassing at times but also straight-up irritating.

But I started paying attention to the ingredients in my hair products and realized a lot of them were drying out my scalp.

I ditched the harsh chemical ingredients and started using shampoos with tea tree oil, that’s great at reducing dandruff, and neem oil which has antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, that help with dandruff control.

5. Environmental Impact

When we wash our hair, the shampoo, along with its chemical ingredients, is rinsed out and goes down the drain. From there, it travels to wastewater treatment plants.

Although wastewater treatment plants are designed to filter and treat sewage before releasing it into rivers, lakes, or the ocean, not all ingredients are completely removed during the treatment process.

Chemicals that are not biodegradable, can pass through these treatment facilities and enter natural water bodies and even leach into the soil.

You’ve also got to consider the impact of shampoo bottles and their packaging because that alone is a waste issue.

The good news is that organic shampoo brands use biodegradable ingredients that have a much lower impact on the environment and can naturally degrade over time.

They also use packaging that is much more sustainable like plastic-free bottles and FSC-certified packaging.

6. Avoid Chemical Buildup

Now chemicals are not a bad thing. There are chemicals used in many products that are effective and safe. But what I’m talking about is the not-so-safe chemicals. The ones you want nowhere near your hair or skin.

Think about this… your hair and skin(scalp) act as the backdoor to your bloodstream. What goes on you can pass through your epidermis layer with permeable enhancers that are in these products.

And once they pass through that protective layer they can enter into your bloodstream.

So if you’re buying products with paraben compounds, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and dyes you’re allowing these chemicals and compounds to enter into your bloodstream.

Over time these chemicals can build up in your body causing health issues like endocrine and hormone disruption, reproductive issues, developmental challenges(especially in young children and teens), skin irritation, and cancer.

However, with shampoos made with mindfully safe ingredients, you can protect yourself against harsh chemical buildup in your body.

7. Transparency in Ingredients

It’s really common for conventional shampoos to lack transparency because they know that if most consumers knew what was in their product, they most likely wouldn’t buy it.

So instead they use deceptive tactics like greenwashing to throw you off and pretty much trick you into trusting their brand and buying their products.

But luckily this isn’t every shampoo brand on the market.

Brands that sell organic beauty products make it a priority to be transparent about not only their ingredients but their sourcing and manufacturing practices.

So not only do you know what you’re buying, but you can also feel good about it.
